upLIGHT helps you tell your stories in light.
upLIGHT is a New York experience design and integration studio working in light, sound, and media. Our projects span live entertainment, museums and exhibits, broadcast and television, architectural façades, and permanent public installations. Whatever the scale, our job is the same: to help our clients’ stories reach the people who experience them.
A favorite professor used to say that lighting designers are mostly darkness designers, and that what we leave unlit gives the light its meaning. That is why we begin every project by asking what the light is for. In the theatre, designers look to the story for the reason light behaves the way it does. We bring that perspective to everything we do, on stage or off.
We take a project from first idea to opening night and beyond. We develop the concept and design the experience across light, sound, projection, and media. When a project calls for something new, we create it, from interactive elements to original audio and video. And we program, install, and commission our own work, then monitor it once it is running, so the people who shaped the idea are the people who make it run. Our clients have one team accountable from start to finish.
Theatre also taught us to serve a vision larger than our own department, and that approach has built lasting relationships. We worked with TED from 2014 to 2023 and have created holiday sound and light shows for commercial developments for almost twenty years. Our clients and collaborators include the Schiele Museum of Natural History, Tiffany & Co., Peterson Companies, SFG Productions, and Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, in collaboration with Art & Industry.
People
Greg Bloxham, Principal and Designer

Greg studied theatrical lighting design at The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago and came to New York to work on Broadway lighting teams. He co-founded upLIGHT in 2015 and leads the studio today, setting the creative direction for a team of designers and programmers who all come from the theatre. In more than 25 years his work has ranged across museums, broadcast, live events, and public spaces. He is a member of United Scenic Artists, Local USA 829, and runs upLIGHT as a USA 829 design office.
Greg believes in deep collaboration, with his own team and with every client and design partner. He leads by giving the team the story first, so that each designer and programmer knows what the light, sound, and media are there to do. He loves bringing the most advanced technology from manufacturers into a project, and he works hands-on alongside the team to engineer and program it. Through all of it he keeps the future visitor at the front of his mind: the person who will one day walk into the space and experience it for the first time.
